Detail of outcome

We assessed responses to the call for evidence against the data already held, and used this to develop proposals for the formal Consultation on the Recast WEEE Directive and UK WEEE System Changes, published on 17 April 2013. This consultation will enable us to introduce relevant proposals alongside the changes needed to transpose the recast EU WEEE Directive 2012/19/EU into UK law.

Call for evidence description

Following the 2012 Budget, the government committed to consult on preventing excessive compliance costs for business from the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations.

This call for evidence aims to improve our evidence on compliance costs arising from the UK WEEE Regulations. It will inform our decisions about alternative policy proposals to reduce burdens on business whilst ensuring that we meet environmental objectives.

Section 7 of the call for evidence document includes the call for evidence questions. We have provided pro-forma excel spreadsheets for data collection intended for:

  • producers of electrical and electronic equipment
  • Producer Compliance Schemes
  • WEEE treatment facilities
