Additional information and photographs
In a Board of Trade Staff list dated April 1918, William Watson is described as Sergeant Major, 11th (Service) Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers, QM (Honorary Lieutenant) 23rd Battalion, Durham Light Infantry, and new Draft Conducting Officer attached HQ Unit. In papers dated 1922 it is stated that "it would appear that Lt Wm Watson DCM was in the 57th S Reserve, DLI at the time of his death ....... Had obtained DIM[sic] during South African war.....". The file contains a testimonial from the Lancashire Fusiliers which describes his award as DSM (Board of Trade Roll of Honour, PRO, BT 13/111 42620)

William Watson is also commemorated on the Patent Office Memorial 1914-1918, now in Concept House, Newport.
