Economics in the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS)
Economics plays a key role in policymaking in BIS. Economists advise on a range of policy issues, from productivity and competitiveness indicators, through to regional development and evaluation in the Department.
The Department has one of the largest groups of economists in Government, and is able to offer career opportunities in a wide range of areas. More information about economics careers in Government is available from the Government Economic Service website.
The Department places analysis at the heart of policy-making. As part of this process the Department has decided to make its analysis and evidence base more publicly available through the publication of the Main Economics Papers series, which set out the thinking underpinning policy development.
