Partners
Partnership working is central to BRDO’s approach. We work with the Regulatory Excellence Forum of professional and representative bodies – including national regulators – to simplify the complex regulatory system. This gains vital input from our Local Authority Reference Panel , while we receive advice and feedback from our Business Reference Panel , which represents a wider network of around 750,000 businesses. We chair the Welsh Regulators’ Forum , which helps to deliver the Welsh Government’s commitment to regulate businesses in a manner that supports prosperity and protects citizens. In March 2012, we also formed the Primary Authority User Group , to draw upon the experience and insight of businesses and local authorities participating in partnerships.
BRDO’s Reference Panels provide stakeholder input and feedback into BRDO’s projects and programmes and act as expert groups to inform BRDO’s work. They provide an opportunity to work in partnership to simplify regulators’ approaches in order to advance the outcomes of prosperity and protection for businesses and consumers.
The Reference Panels provide opportunities for identifying and sharing good practice. The Panels can also instigate task and finish sub-groups to examine particular issues in more detail.
BRDO also works in the light of the Joint Statement of Commitment with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health and the Trading Standards Institute, signed in June 2011.
A number of groups providing expertise to the regulatory community can be approached for clarification and consultation on matters of technical interpretation and practical enforcement. To support the provision of high quality advice by regulatory practitioners, these groups are detailed in the following list, compiled by BRDO in conjunction with the LGA, professional bodies, national regulators and local authority professionals.
