Completed panels 1999-2002

On 1 April 1999 the second round of the UK Foresight Programme began. This round moved beyond the technology focus of the first, to examine the opportunities that arose from the interaction of innovations in science and technology with wider social and market trends.

The objectives were to:

  • identify significant market opportunities and threats;
  • identify emerging capabilities;
  • highlight areas of policy, regulation, education and training; and
  • identify areas for action.

Panels continued to be the heart of the programme - three Thematic Panels and ten Sector Panels. They brought together representatives from business, the science base, the voluntary sector and government to consider the future and make recommendations for action. All panels were asked to consider the implications of their findings for education, skills and training and sustainable development. The final reports of these Panels, as well as a range of other materials produced by their task forces, are all available for download from the relevant area of this site.
