Cyber trust and crime prevention

Foresight project looking at the future opportunities and challenges created by information and communication technologies (ICT).

This project explored the possible applications and effects of next generation technologies in computing, communication and personal security.

The aim was to review the science and to make sure that the UK is well placed to develop and to benefit from information technology.

The project looked at:

  • how the risks involved in the use of ICT might change over the next 15 years
  • how society might react to these changes in risk

Over 45 scientists, and 260 experts overall, were involved over the lifetime of the project. Ten science reviews were commissioned to inform the project covering a range of disciplines from philosophy and economics to the study of information systems.

The project was sponsored by the Home Office.
