Foresight project Flood and Coastal Defence

The Foresight project Flooding and Coastal Defence produced a challenging and long-term (30 - 100 years) vision for the future of flood and coastal defence in the whole of the UK that takes account of the many uncertainties, is robust, and can be used as a basis to inform policy and its delivery. The report launched in April 2004.

Long term project impact

The Foresight Flooding and Coastal Defence report has had major impact on government policy in the UK. Watch this video produced by Professor Colin Thorne, University of Nottingham, to see how.

Application of the Foresight Future Flooding project in the Taihu Basin, China

This project arose from an OSI mission to the People's Republic of China in March 2005. The aim of the mission was to brief Chinese stakeholders and experts of the methodology and findings of the Foresight Flood and Coastal Defence Project in order to create a network of UK and Chinese experts and provide an opportunity for international application of the Foresight initiative through a similar project in China.
