The Government Chief Scientific Adviser – Professor John Beddington – provides scientific advice directly to the Prime Minister and the Cabinet.

The Government Office for Science is based in the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills but is professionally independent of it. We work closely with science colleagues based in the Department including the International Science and Innovation Unit (ISIU) and the Science and Research Base.

GO-Science works closely with a range of departments to put science and engineering at the forefront of policy decisions. To find out more about what we have been doing recently see GO-Science now.

Every Government department now has a Chief Scientific Adviser. Find out more about Chief Scientific Advisers and how they work. Government Science & Engineering (GSE) is the growing professional community for scientists and engineers working in the Civil Service.

We have relationships with a number of other professional bodies including learned societies. To find out more about the work we have undertaken with these and other organisations recently see GO-Science now.
