John Beddington has pledged his support for the 10:10 campaign.

10:10 is a global warming mitigation campaign calling for a 10% reduction in carbon emissions in 2010. The project aims to demonstrate public support, apply pressure to policymakers to commit to national cuts, and inspire success at the United Nations climate change negotiations.

10:10 has attracted widespread support.  Anyone can sign up to commit to reducing their emission by 10% in 2010, or alternatively across one full year period from when they make their commitment. Latest figures are:

  • 90,000+  people including celebrities and politicians e.g.  Delia Smith, Sara Cox, Vivienne Westwood and Colin Firth, Gordon Brown, David Cameron, Nick Clegg
  • 3,463 businesses including Royal Mail, O2, Adidas and Tottenham Hotspur FC
  • 1,962 schools, colleges and universities including Edinburgh University, King's College London, York University and Liverpool University
  • 2,203 other organisations including the National Union of Students, the Women's Institute and 155 local councils representing over 24m people
