An explanatory review of the world food commodity price events of 2007-8

In spring 2008, the Government Chief Scientific Adviser, Professor John Beddington, commissioned Colin Thirtle, Professor of Development Economics at Imperial College London, to analyse and report on the issue of food commodity prices, in the context of the growing concerns over impacts of rising prices. The report includes perspectives from a range of authors, and covers economic and related science issues including analysis of the short-term and long term pressures on food commodity prices and the role of agricultural research and development and trade policy.

Please note that this report is not a statement of government policy.
