Health
Within the wider work on global issues, the Health and Environment team supports the Government Chief Scientific Adviser in working across Government to ensure coordinated and effective working between departments, and that policy and decision making is supported by strong scientific evidence and robust arguments on issues such as new and emerging technologies, human and animal health. To ensure this, we regularly engage with Government departments (Chief Scientific Advisers, scientists and officials), and where required advise on, or directly seek advice from independent experts, research bodies and relevant stakeholders to ensure the best science advice is applied to policy making.
The team also has a role providing support to the GCSA on topical issues as they emerge, such as Pandemic Influenza or cloning of animals for food production. By nature, such issues can be highly unpredictable thus the team is responsible for coordinating and drawing together key scientific evidence and providing sound advice to the Government Chief Scientific Adviser.
