Strengthening academia and government engagement

Engagement between academia and Government is a critical element in ensuring that policy making is informed by relevant evidence

In 2008 the Council for Science and Technology (CST) published a report on How Academia and Government can Work Together which makes recommendations to strengthen engagement between academia and Government.

The Government has accepted the CST report and the Government Office for Science is co-ordinating a 10 point Action Plan to implement the CST’s recommendations.

In November 2011 the Government Office for Science published an interim report (PDF, 60 Kb)  on progress against the 10 point plan.

As part of the Royal Society pairing scheme, the Government Office for Science produced a Guide to Engaging with Government for Academics (PDF, 133 Kb) .
