EC Regulation on Insolvency Proceedings
The EC Regulation on Insolvency Proceedings (The Regulation) was adopted by the EU Council on 29 May 2000 and came into force on 31 May 2002. It has direct effect in all member states of the European Union, with the exception of Denmark, who have said that they will introduce parallel legislation.

Because the Regulation has direct effect domestic legislation is not required to implement it but, to make it workable and to provide clarity , a limited number of changes were made to insolvency legislation and forms. The following Statutory Instruments came into force in May 2002.
