If they are controlled by Scottish Courage Limited they operate a Central Call Centre that can provide information and make arrangements for appropriate actions to be taken.
The number for the call centre is 0845 302 3000
Do I have to have Type Approval for an instrument to dispense intoxicating liquor in the UK?
If any intoxicating liquors are to be dispensed for retail sales in a quantity not exceeding 2 pints by a measuring instrument then that instrument must be Type Approved by NWML. This requirement is specified by SI 1656 'Measuring Equipment (Intoxicating Liquor) Regulations 1983'. In addition to this the intoxicating liquor order SI 2039 1988/2039 states that beer, cider, made wine, wine, gin, rum, vodka and whisky shall be sold in certain specified quantities if sold by retail for consumption on the premises at which it is sold.
What regulations does an intoxicating liquor measuring instrument have to comply with?
There are two Statutory Instruments with which spirit measuring instruments have to comply:
- SI 1656 'Measuring Equipment |(Intoxicating Liquor) Regulations 1983'
- SI 2039 'Weights and Measures (Intoxicating Liquor) Order 1988'
You should note that both of these SIs have been amended since their original publication so, when purchasing them, you would need to specify that you require the amendments in addition to the original publication.
The instrument must also comply with NMO's Design Assessment Criteria as laid out in TE18 or TE21 latest issue. Copies may be obtained free from NMO.
