The Batteries and Accumulators and Waste Batteries and Accumulators Directive 2006/66/EC came into force on 26 September 2006 and has been amended by Directive's 2008/12/EC and 2008/103/EC.
Directive 2008/12/EC and Directive 2008/103/EC amend Directive 2006/66/EC and its corrections.
The Directive has been transposed into UK law under statutory instrument 2008 No. 2164.
Commission Regulation (EU) No 1103/2010 pursuant to Directive 2006/66/EC, establishes rules with regards to capacity labelling of portable secondary (rechargable) and automotive batteries and acumulators.

The European Commission has developed the Blue Guide which is intended to contribute to better understanding of Directives based on the New Approach and Global Approach, and to their more uniform and coherent application across different sectors and throughout the Single Market.
