Capacity Labelling
Article 21(2) of the Batteries and Accumulators Directive 2006/66/EC, which requires that all portable (rechargeable and nonrechargeable) and automotive batteries and accumulators carry a capacity label, will apply from 31 May 2012, in line with Commission Regulation (EU) No 1103/2010.
The purpose of this label is to provide useful, easily understandable and comparable information to consumers purchasing different batteries and accumulators.
There are detailed rules for implementing this requirement regarding portable rechargeable and automotive batteries and accumulators. The rules include harmonised methods for determining the capacity and appropriate use of such batteries and accumulators.
Commission Regulation (EU) No 1103/2010 came into force on 30 November 2010 and will apply to portable rechargeable and automotive batteries and accumulators placed on the market from 31 May 2012.
