Legislation
The Energy Labelling Framework (ELF) Directive 2010/30/EU provides a framework which facilitates the labelling of products so that the power consumption of one make and model can be compared to another. The Directive entered into force on 19 June 2010.
The recast Energy Labelling Framework Directive repeals Directive 98/34/EC which in turn repealed Directive 92/75/EEC and has been transposed into UK law under Statutory Instrument 2011 No. 1524 and amended by 2011 No. 2677.

Household Washing Machines – Regulation 1061/2010 came into force on 20 December 2010 repealing Commission Directive 95/12/EC which was transposed into UK law under statutory instrument 1996 No. 600

Household Combined Washer Driers – Commission Directive 96/60/EC came into force on 21 May 2004 and was transposed into UK law under statutory instrument 1997 No. 1624
Household Lamps – Commission Directive 98/11/EC came into force on 30 March 1998 and was transposed into UK law under statutory instrument 1999 No. 1517
Household Dishwashers – Regulation 1059/2010 came into force on 20 December 2010 repealing Commission Directive 97/17/EC which was transposed into UK law under statutory instrument 1999 No. 1676

Household Electric Ovens – Commission Directive 2002/40/EC came into force on 4 June 2002 and was transposed into UK law under statutory instrument 2003 No. 751
Household Refrigerating Appliances – Regulation 1060/2010 came into force on 20 December 2010 repealing Commission Directive 94/2/EC which was transposed into UK law under statutory instrument 2004 No. 1468. A Commission Communication was published on 16 February 2011.

Air Conditioners – Commission Directive 2002/31/EC came into force on 23 April 2002 and was transposed into UK law under statutory instrument 2005 No. 1726

The European Commission has developed the Blue Guide which is intended to contribute to better understanding of Directives based on the New Approach and the Global Approach, and to their more uniform and coherent application across different sectors and throughout the Single Market.
