Around 39% of NMS effort is focussed on the NMS infrastructure by maintaining and extending the capability of the measurement infrastructure and the provision of top-level standards and certified reference materials.
Around 8% effort is in long term developments in the SI, for example fundamental re-definitions of the base units of measurement.
Around 6% is invested in statutory obligations laid down in legislation, for example the Weights & Measures Act and the Food Safety Act, and international activities.
A further 6% goes into promoting the UK as a leading player in OIML (International Organisation of Legal Metrology) and EURAMET (the group of European national measurement institutes engaged in scientific metrology), and facilitating the UK‟s participation in the CIPM MRA (International Committee for Weights & Measures Mutual Recognition Arrangement) for national measurement standards.
