Improving the Impact Assessment process

The Impact Assessment (IA) process is subject to continuous review, to ensure it is as effective as it can be.

In July 2011 the Reducing Regulation sub-Committee approved changes to the Impact Assessment process proposed by the Better Regulation Executive. These changes were informed by discussions with stakeholders both within and outside of government. The aim was to make the process more flexible, while ensuring information is produced to facilitate evidence based policy making and manage the regulatory system.

This builds on the changes which were made in 2007, after the Better Regulation Executive consulted on reforms to the process (see response below). The Impact Assessment process was amended to promote greater transparency and ensure the benefits of new interventions outweigh any regulatory burdens they impose.
