Criminal Courts Sentences and Orders for Insolvency Service Referrals

During the year April 2010 to March 2011, 166 defendants were sentenced having been convicted of offences following prosecutions brought by the Prosecutions Branch of BIS, as a result of referrals from the Insolvency Service. The convictions were for a range of offences relating to corporate and individual insolvencies.

  • Of those convicted, 99 defendants received custodial sentences, ranging from 5 days month to 6 years.
  • 21 sentences for Community Punishment Orders, ranging from 80 hours to 18 months.
  • 18 were fined ranging from £185 to £3,000.
  • 14 Curfew Orders were issued ranging from 2 weeks to 6 months.
  • 12 supervision orders were issued ranging from 8 months to 104 months.
  • 79 sentences included doing unpaid work ranging from 2 months to 36 months.
  • 12 were conditionally discharged ranging for 2 months to 36 months.
  • 15 confiscation orders were made totalling £217,943.89.
  • 9 Compensation Orders were made in 6 cases totalling £105,655.55.
  • 53 Disqualification Orders were made ranging from 12 months to 15 years.
  • And 93 defendants were ordered to pay total prosecution costs of £132,397.66.
