The Prime Minister's Better Public Building Award

The British Construction Industry Award (BCIA) recognises outstanding achievement in the construction of buildings, taking account of a wide range of factors including architectural and engineering design; as well as the construction process all of which are key factors in being able to deliver to time and budget and client satisfaction.

The BCIA has thirteen separate categories of award, one of which is the Prime Minister’s Better Public Building Award which recognises and rewards excellence in both design and procurement. It is awarded to a new building project, of any size or budget, commissioned by or on behalf of local or central government or by a grant-aid organisation. These Awards were launched in 2000.

They recognise:

  • high-quality design
  • efficient procurement
  • economic and social value
  • good team work between client, designer, contractor and specialists
  • sound financial management
  • whole-life value for money
  • sustainability
  • client satisfaction

BIS, through its Construction Sector Unit, the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) and the Office of Government Commerce (OGC) jointly sponsor the 2009 Award.
