Relationship with Royal Mail

Royal Mail and the Post Office are different businesses, facing different challenges.  In order to maintain the Post Office in public ownership and enable private sector investment in Royal Mail, the Post Office will be separated from Royal Mail Group.

However, this does not mean that the two companies will no longer work together.  The Chief Executive of Royal Mail has called it "unthinkable" that there would not always be a strong relationship between Royal Mail and the Post Office.

The management of Royal Mail and the Post Office have committed to signing the longest contract legally permissible between the two companies before they separate.  The Government has confirmed that, as shareholder, it will ensure they keep that promise.
