Better Regulation for SMEs

The Government is committed to embed a “think small first” principle into all policy development. To help make new regulations as small business friendly as possible, small businesses can register to join the Small Firms Consultation Database.
The Enterprise Directorate works with policymakers in Whitehall and elsewhere to help assess the impact proposals could have on Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs).
Policy proposals related to business will also impact on small firms either directly or indirectly. The Enterprise Directorate looks for ways to implement policy that is 'friendly' to both small business and enterprise, and which allows for successful compliance.
Working with officials gives owners and managers of small businesses a first-hand opportunity to submit opinions on the potential impact a regulatory proposal may have.
