7 December 2009 - Solutions for Business: a Foundation for the Future 

'Solutions for Business: a Foundation for the Future' is delivery of a Budget 2009 commitment to publish a progress report alongside the 2009 Pre-Budget Report. It sets out what the shift to simpler support has achieved so far, the benefits it will deliver in the future, and the work underway to maintain and further improve the strong monitoring and evaluation framework we are putting in place.

It also outlines the benefits of streamlined support now and in the future, and the work underway to maintain and further improve the overarching monitoring and evaluation framework we are putting in place.

23 April 2009 - Budget 2009

Budget 2009 committed that all future forms of business support will be delivered through the Solutions for Business portfolio. Building on this, the Government will publish, alongside the 2009 Pre-Budget Report, a detailed report on progress against delivery that will set out what has been achieved, give early indications of the associated benefits, and outline the strategy for maintaining and building on this simplified framework in the future

31 March 2009 - Roll out of Solutions for Business complete

The Government has today delivered on its promise to provide a simplified framework for publicly funded support for businesses.

BERR has announced that the design and rollout of Solutions for Business, its streamlined portfolio of business support products, is complete with over 3,000 schemes reduced to an opening 30. For the first time all government help for business now shares an easily identifiable banner and can be accessed mainly via Business Link. From March 2010 these will be the only products businesses will see. Press Notice

23 October 2008 – Solutions for Business – funded by government announced

The government has announced a streamlined package of publicly funded business support products called Solutions for Business – funded by government. Products will be easily recognisable and be available via Business Link. Lord Mandelson, Secretary of State for Business and Enterprise, revealed that 30 Solutions for Business products will be in place early next year in a speech to the Northern Regeneration Summit.

24 September 2008 - Local Authorities to trial new business support programme

A group of Local Authorities will trial the Government's new Business Support Simplification Programme. This will involve different aspects of programme delivery to ensure smooth delivery as it rollouts across the UK.

28 May 2008 - Business support at the Local Level published

Business Support at the Local Level published jointly by BERR and CLG aims to help local authorities understand the implications of BSSP. It also sets out how BSSP fits with the Local Performance Framework and the Review of Sub-National Economic Development and Regeneration (SNR).

14 April 2008 - Chair of the Transition Management Board appointed

Martin Temple, current Chair of the manufacturers' organisation EEF, will take up the position of Chair of the Transition Management Board for the Business Support Simplification Programme (BSSP). The Board will oversee the Government’s drive to simplify government-funded support for businesses.

Business Minister Shriti Vadera said, "This is an important appointment to ensure delivery of our commitment to simplify and ease the access of our support for growing businesses. I am confident Martin’s long experience and perspective from businesses using business support will be invaluable."

12 March 2008 - Government outlines vision for business support

Simple Support, Better Business: business support in 2010, which outlines what the business support landscape will look like in the future, has been published by the Government. The document gives a timeline for the launch of a high-level portfolio of government funded support products that will help companies address generic business issues.
