International Export Control Awareness School
Find out more about the training and skills provision offered by the Export Control Organisation aimed at companies, individuals, intemediary organisations, staff, partners and international governments.
International outreach activities to promote effective export controls are an extremely important tool in the fight against proliferation.
The Export Control Organisation is well respected in international circles for undertaking a wide range of outreach activities internationally.
The International Export Control Awareness School is part of combined government efforts to promote good licensing practice. The School therefore:
- Supports Foreign Office-led international outreach work and activities.
- Hosts inward visits to cover specific aspects of export controls
Foreign Office-led International Outreach
The Academy is regularly involved in European Union (EU) initiated outreach projects with the aim of promoting good export licensing practice.
In addition, we have also previously participated where appropriate in other foreign government outreach programmes.
Defence Academy course on "An Introduction to Ballistic & Cruise Missile Technology"
This is a short 5 day course. It aims to provide a broad understanding of the principles of ballistic and cruise missile flight and the technologies.
The course is aimed specifically at government officials working with the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR), involved with export licensing and working on missile non-proliferation.
The course is delivered annually by the College of Management and Technology, part of the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom and in conjunction with Cranfield University. The course is held at the Defence Academy at Shrivenham.
The next course is due to take place from 21 to 25 November 2011.

Inward Visits
Government to Government seminars and workshops are typically 1 to 5 days duration and are tailored to the particular country’s focus of export control activities.
A sample visit programme might, for instance, include:
- Role of UK Government Departments in export licensing
- UK legislation
- Overview of the licensing process
- Demonstration of SPIRE (ECO's licensing database)
- Industry Compliance
- Enforcement role of Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC)
