Flexible working


Flexible working describes any working pattern adapted to suit employer and employee needs. It is generally negotiable

Common types of flexible working are:

  • Part-time employees
  • Flexi-time: employees choose when to work around a core time period
  • Annualised hours: employees' hours are worked out over a year
  • Compressed hours: employees work agreed hours over fewer days
  • Staggered hours: different starting, break and finishing times for employees in the same workplace
  • Job sharing: a job designed for one person is performed by two or more employees
  • Home working
