Job Centre Plus is a service offered by the government to match employers with potential employees. It displays employers' vacancies and refers potential recruits

Advantages

  • offers advice on local labour market and best way to fill a vacancy, good practice, retention, training and career development
  • provides a large pool of job-ready candidates
  • can sometimes arrange a work trial
  • wide publicity: JobCentre Plus website and touchscreen JobPoints are used by 1.5million people a week
  • provides extra services, for example the use of interview rooms, help with sifting applications, job fairs
  • can also offer help with redundancies

Disadvantages

Many specialist workers do not use Job Centre Plus.

Cost

  • no direct cost to employers
  • may provide financial support for employers taking on staff

Length of the process

Jobs are posted on the Job Centre Plus website within two hours. There is a large pool of job-ready candidates.

Job Centre Plus's Disability Service Team can help address the specific requirements of attracting disabled people.

Conclusions
