UK-China Education Relations


The 3rd Sino-UK Education Summit meeting was held on 29 October 2007 in Beijing. The UK delegation was led by John Denham, Secretary of State for Innovation, Universities and Skills, while the Chinese Minister of Education, Zhou Ji represented the Chinese Government

Education summits are annual events and provide an opportunity for the respective Ministers of Education to review the current state of educational collaboration between the two countries and to agree further activities.

At the 2007 Summit, the two Ministers discussed a wide range of education-related issues including: future collaboration in higher education, skills and vocational education and training, language and cultural exchanges. The two Ministers signed two Memorandum of Understanding on:

  • HE collaboration
  • Graduate Work Experience Programme

No date has yet been fixed for the next summit to be held in London but it will take place in the first half of 2009.
