Freedom of Information Publication Scheme

Freedom of informationThis is the Department’s publication scheme, drawn up under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. The purpose of this publication scheme is to set out:

  • Classes of information we commit to publish as a matter of course
  • How this information will be published
  • Whether the information is available free of charge or on payment

The publication scheme fulfils the requirements of the Information Commissioner as set out in his model publication scheme for FOI public authorities supported by the Commissioner’s definition document for Government departments. The BIS publication scheme comprises the publication schemes of UK Trade & Investment, Companies House and the Insolvency Service.

Classes of Information in the BIS Publication Scheme are made up of two parts:

  1. A main heading (shown in menu on the left)
  2. A scoping summary which defines the information covered by a class

Searching the Scheme by Class will provide a list of all the items currently published within that class. Please note that some of our classes are very broad and others are narrowly defined.

The information subject to this scheme is available on the BIS internet site or as otherwise indicated in the scheme. While the overwhelming majority of information published by BIS is published free of charge, charges apply in some circumstances.

Suggestions or complaints about this publication scheme can be addressed to the BIS Information Rights Unit. Printed versions of the scheme are available on request from the Information Rights Unit.
