We published the ‘Trade and Investment white paper’ on 9 February 2011. It examines the UK’s trade and investment policy, taking account of changing domestic, EU and global developments. It also sets out the government’s action plan to help the UK to be one of the most attractive places in the world to invest and do business.

Summarises the consultation responses to the call for evidence and from stakeholder consultation seminars. We received 109 responses from across all our stakeholder groups:
- business
- non-governmental organisations (NGOs)
- trade unions
- academics
- think tanks
A breakdown of respondents is provided in Table 1 and a full list of the respondents is at Annex 2. The main topics in the responses were on how the government should support:
- trade
- removal of barriers to trade
- economic growth
- sustainable development in countries across the globe
These responses helped inform the development of the ‘Trade and Investment white paper’.

Call for evidence description
We’re working on a comprehensive trade and investment action plan for the UK that will set out how the UK can make the most of international opportunities. This action plan will be set out in a white paper due to be published at the end of the 2011.
We welcome your views to inform the development of the action plan, highlighting issues and areas where we could play a more effective role, and sharing your ideas for the global trading system.
