Four Cluster satellites are orbiting the Earth in formation tens to thousands of kilometres apart. The spacecraft are examining the interaction between the solar wind - the stream of charged particles from the Sun - and the magnetosphere, the magnetic 'bubble' surrounding the Earth.

At 14:57 BST on Thursday 8 April 2010, the European Space Agency successfully launched its ice mission CryoSat-2 from the Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.
